Overview
The Banquet Captain is responsible for leading the execution of all daily catered events. This position will work closely with the Banquet Manager & Director of Events to supervise the work of banquet service staff and banquet set up staff. This position will be responsible for training, preparing daily pull sheets, daily task sheets, assisting with event set up and breakdown, and supervising all catering operations at selected events.
Responsibilities
- Reviews and understands the logistical plan necessary to successfully carry out events. Communicates and delegates tasks to banquet wait staff.
- Assists in planning the timeline for the set up and breakdown of special events.
- Communicates with kitchen staff to coordinate food deliveries to ensure the quality and safety of food.
- Maintains appropriate documentation of events to ensure compliance with Hallbrook events policies and procedures.
- Trains and supervises banquet wait staff.
- Assists with inventory of event supplies (i.e. alcohol, uniforms, equipment, linens, props) and makes recommendations for repair and replacement.
- Works with Food and Beverage Management team to develop and implement continuous improvement training.
- Supervise breakdown and clean up after events, including distributing catering equipment, rental items, décor, etc. to appropriate locations.
- Maintains a safe work environment by enforcing all safety standards and performing safety audits.
- Writes daily event pull sheets and daily task assignments to ensure successful execution of all catering events.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Previous catering, events, and/or banquet experience required.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Advanced working knowledge of service standards
- Flexible work schedule – weekends, evenings, holidays
- Predictable and reliable attendance is required.
- CPR and AED certification a plus
- Outgoing, friendly, service-oriented personality
- Time management and organizational skills; ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Sense of urgency, ability to work with focus independently, and strong work ethic
- Ability to be on feet for up to 85% of the prescribed shift
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds, able to stand, bend, stoop, twist, and turn for prolonged periods
- These positions often require an individual to work long hours, holidays (including but not limited to Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve, Easter, Mother’s Day, Labor Day, July 4th, Memorial Day), weekends and may be subjected to shifts longer than 10 hours in one working day.
