Banquet Captain
Job Description
Summary:
The Banquet Captain is responsible for directing the Banquet and set-up staff to assure that all banquets, meetings, etc., provide high levels of member/guest service and satisfaction. Able to handle multiple responsibilities at one time, effectively communicate verbally and in writing, possesses excellent computer skills, and has the ability to create and maintain positive relationships with fellow co-workers and members/guests.
Essential job functions:
- Supervising banquet staff members as directed by the Banquet Manager
- Assisting with training banquet staff members
- Participates in the hiring, orientating, training and development of personnel in his/her area of responsibility
- Participates in the review and evaluation of the performance of personnel his/her area of responsibility
- Supervises, directs, and motivates the efforts of personnel in his/her area of responsibility
- Identifies need for disciplinary action and recommends appropriate action.
- Works with guests and asks them to notify them of any concerns or compliments
- Ensures prompt, courteous food and beverage service throughout banquet by assigning banquet servers to designated areas
- Observes guests throughout function and responds immediately to any additional requests.
- Performs table-side food preparation and service as required, including presenting, opening and pouring wine
- Responds to and resolves or refers any guest needs
- Inspecting function rooms and equipment prior to the functions for cleanliness, proper inventory and set up
- Orders rental equipment and linens as necessary for banquet events
- Responding to operational and/or guest issues when necessary, ensuring proper follow through with appropriate manager(s)
- Wears appropriate uniform and maintains personal hygiene and cleanliness of banquet rooms
- Communicates effectively with customers, co-workers and management notifying management of all matters of significance
- Provides value added service to customers by doing whatever is reasonable and possible to meet or exceed customer expectations
- Assures that all rooms are set up as specified and on time
- Coordinates with the kitchen to assure food is ready on time
- Works with the Sales and Catering Department to facilitate events
- Participates in set up, serving etc.
- Maintains inventory and operational procedures of all audio-visual equipment.
- Assists monthly inventory of Banquet chairs, table cloths, skirting, silverware, cups, and glasses
- Supervises the assigned function(s) to their conclusion, including closing of banquets, and coordinates next day set ups as assigned
- Supervising and assisting with the break down after the completion of functions to ensure that all equipment and supplies are stored correctly
- Perform additional duties as required.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to frequently sit, stand, bend, kneel, walk and crouch
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs., and to lift overhead and push/pull, move lighter objects.
Qualifications:
- State required alcohol seller server certification and food handling certification
- Requires ability to frequently lift/move up to 30lbs.
- At least one year Banquet Server experience.
